Streeterville Chicago Neighborhood

Streeterville is a prestigious Chicago neighborhood where some of the city’s most notable buildings are located (e.g. the Hancock Center). The Magnificent Mile offers world-class shopping and Navy Pier is Chicago’s most popular family attraction. Streeterville condos for sale may cost a pretty penny, but you’re sure to get luxury living in this affluent downtown neighborhood.

Streeterville is just across the Chicago River from the Loop, situated right along the lakefront. It is separated from the Gold Coast and River North by the famous stretch of Michigan Avenue known as the Magnificent Mile. This is the city’s main retail strip. It houses several vertical malls and more designer label departments than you can visit in one day. The Water Tower Place is a favorite shopping center that offers floor after floor of consumer goods, fashion wear, and must-have merchandise. Other big name retailers that never fail to draw hordes of window shoppers to Streeterville include Niketown, Apple Store, and The Disney Store – all with large flagships storefronts right on Michigan Ave.

Anyone shopping for upscale Chicago real estate will find a good selection of Steeterville condos for sale. The downtown setting has led to the development of many full amenity high-rise condominiums with all the perks of prime Chicago properties. In addition to 24-hour doormen and valet parking service, these residential buildings have health clubs, pools, communal party rooms, business centers, rooftop sundecks, cleaners, and spectacular views of the cityscape and lakefront. It is not uncommon for Streeterville condos for sale to have price tags in the multimillions. For that kind of money you’ll get spacious top-floor digs with top-of-the-line finishes. But you don’t have to shell out millions to live in Streeterville. The least expensive studios and small one-bedroom units are generally available for between $140,000 and $300,000, although there are plenty of opportunities to spend much more on the same square footage.

Some Streeterville condos for sale have home theaters, but perhaps the best place to watch a film is at the Navy Pier IMAX Theater. The giant screen is over 80 feet wide and six stories tall. If you prefer the traditional movie atmosphere, AMC River East 21 is just around the corner. This multi-level cineplex is where Chicago hosts all its Red Carpet movie premieres.

Tucked among the skyscraping residential towers of Streeterville are a number of widely recognized symbols of Chicago architecture. The aforementioned John Hancock Center, with its sleek black façade and signature X-brace framework, is probably the most significant. It’s lofty restaurant and bar is a fancy spot to get a drink and survey the city from above. On the other end of the neighborhood is the ornate stone masterpiece of the Tribune Tower. It was the winning design in a heated competition to create the “most beautiful office building in the world” for the Chicago Tribune paper in the early 1920s. And a more modern example of Streeterville architecture is the Museum of Contemporary Art, which displays artwork from the 20th and 21st centuries in a state-of-the-art gallery space.
