Lincoln Park Neighborhood

Lincoln Park is a largely residential neighborhood on Chicago’s North Side that is fairly representative of Chicago’s condo market as a whole. The neighborhood is gets its name from the sprawling 1,200-acre park that’s located along the lakefront on the east side of the neighborhood. The park is certainly the neighborhood’s biggest asset, but residents also benefit from the Lincoln Park’s close proximity to downtown Chicago and the neighborhood’s easy access to rapid transit.

Lincoln Park is Chicago’s heart and soul. It’s one of the most storied residential urban neighborhoods in the country, and there you’ll find some of the most quintessentially Chicago people and places. Lincoln Park is a neighborhood of restaurants, coffee shops bars and boutiques. It’s a very large neighborhood, and within its boundaries there are several districts. For example, the stretch of Armitage Avenue between Halsted and Racine is full of some of the city’s nicest boutiques, and it’s also home to Charlie Trotter’s famed restaurant. The stretch of Lincoln Avenue between Armitage and Diversey, on the other hand, is full of Irish pubs and bars.

When it comes to real estate, Lincoln Park has something to offer everyone – it’s one of Chicago’s largest neighborhoods, and condos can be found here in all shapes and sizes. When you drive through the neighborhood on one of the major thoroughfares, you’ll glimpse a number of mid-sized three- and four-story buildings that have retail stores and restaurants on the ground floor. Many of these properties are rental apartments, as there is a sizeable rental market in Lincoln Park, but a large number of them are also conventional condos that are ideal for small families, couples, or single individuals.

The Lincoln Park condo market features a number of single-family townhomes, especially in the southeastern part of the neighborhood and close to the park, which are some of the most family-friendly places to live in Chicago. The most common type of property that can be found in Lincoln Park are detached single-family homes, but there are also many mid-sized three- and four-story condo buildings in the neighborhood, many of which date more than 100 years old. And in addition to the larger walkups, Lincoln Park is home to many beautiful vintage brownstones and graystones that still contain vestiges of the neighborhood’s rich history.

Of course, the Lincoln Park condo landscape isn’t limited to 100-year-old walkups; like the rest of Chicago’s near north side, the building in the neighborhood has tended upward in recent decades. Located around the southern edges of the park between North Avenue and Fullerton Parkway, there are several large high-rise condo buildings that have taken shape in the landscape of Lincoln Park since the 1960s and ‘70s, several of which are more than 20 stories high. Unlike the Gold Coast, where high-rise condos tend to be a bit larger than normal, most of the units in these Lincoln Park towers are limited to studios and 1- and 2-bedroom units.

Of course, because if its diverse and eclectic nature, the whole of Lincoln Park’s condo market cannot be summarized in a few short paragraphs. The fact is, Lincoln Park’s residential crop runs the gamut from affordable flats and courtyard condominiums to stately mansions that date back as far as Chicago itself.
