Chicago Condo: The Sexton
Building Address:
360 West Illinois, Chicago, IL 60610This building was built in 1920 and it served for most of the 20th century as a warehouse and manufacturing facility. However, as River North developed and ultimately became one of Chicago’s premiere arts and residential neighborhoods, many of the older buildings – like this one – were converted into lofts. In the case of The Sexton, this building got its name from the company that formerly inhabited the building, Sexton foods. In 1999, the building was gutted and rehabbed, and it was converted for residential use. Now, The Sexton is home to some of the most fashionable and comfortable loft-style condos in Chicago.
Located at 360 West Illinois Street in the Heart of River North, most of the city’s main attractions are accessible by foot from the doorstep of The Sexton. There are about 250 separate units in this building, and there is general vicinity parking for cars. Most of the units have exposed brick, large ceilings, and vaulted ceilings that make the residences feel large and bright. In addition, private balconies were added to the original building when it was renovated, and from those balconies residents have excellent views of the whole city. Assessments for this building tend to cost a little bit more than $250 per month, on average, and taxes generally cost between $2,500 and $3,000 per year.
