This two-tower development was designed by world-famous architect Mies van der Rohe in the mid-1950s. It was the first of Mies' high-rises to use his hallmark glass and aluminum curtain wall, which became a signature style of the architect. The complex is named Esplanade Apartments, although it was converted to condos in 1979. The 29-story residential buildings are right on the lakefront and the sleek reflective exteriors mirror the beautiful blue hues of both water and sky. And because of its masterful craftsmanship, 900/910 Lake Shore Drive still requires little upkeep to maintain the 50-year-old structure.
An all-windows design and location on the edge of Lake Michigan works for maximum light exposure in units at 900/910 Lake Shore Drive. The condos have wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling glass panels that allow tons of sunlight in and offer amazing vista out. Units are all different with varying levels of luxury finishes and features. Many have gorgeous hardwood floors and updated granite and stainless steel kitchens. Building amenities include garage parking, 24-hour doorman, valet parking for guests, bicycle room, laundry, storage lockers, receiving lobby, and outdoor commons.
524 units are divided between the two towers – 900 has 371 residences (14 on each floor) and 910 has 153 residences (only 6 per floor). Both buildings are entered through an open two-level modern lobby furnished with terrazzo flooring, Verde antique marble walls and contemporary Barcelona chairs and lounge. Residents share the large outdoor lawn and sundeck that overlooks Lake Michigan. It is on an elevated level to provide the best view of the water and the lush green grass, flower beds and patio furniture make it feel like a real backyard.
